A Messsage to Teachers

This webquest can be used in many different situations

The webquest “Now You Know” can be used with the Gay-Straight Alliance group at school. Students in this group are high school age from grades 10-12. This webquest can be used for diversity day and for sociology classes, as well as Film and video production.

The webquest addresses the Essential Graduation Learnings:

 

1)Personal development- students will examine their beliefs and educate their peers.

 

2) Problem Solving: students will work cooperatively to plan their video and to select facts to post.

 

3)Communication: Students will develop and explore skills for getting across appoint of view.

 

4) Citizenship: Students will be examining how attitudes affect another and this will act as a springboard for exploring attitudes held globally.  Recognizing the rights of others is an important aspect of citizenship.

 

5)Aesthetic Expression: Students will be able to be creative in both the video production and in the fact backdrop.

 

6) Technological competencies: Students will need to use computers to do the webquest and will need to use cameras to film their video.

 

In addition:

 

Social studies: Students are exploring power structures and will explore diversity

 

English: Students are reflecting on their own ideas. They are analyzing documents and selecting important ideas.

 

Mathematics: The students could focus mainly on statistics for the task 1 and present those.

 

Law: Students may encounter laws related to GBLTT youth in their exploration.

 

Sociology: Human rights issues, how a society decides what to value.

 

Science: Facts about the biological aspects of BGLT youth fit with an exploration of biological diversity.
